National Geographic has assembled an all-star cast for its forthcoming miniseries The Long Road Home. Set to star in the military drama are Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Jason Ritter (Parenthood), Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush), Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead), Jeremy Sisto (Suburgatory) and Noel Fisher (Shameless), The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The Long Road Home is an eight-episode miniseries that centers on the events of April 4, 2004, a day known in military circles as "Black Sunday." On that day, a platoon from the 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas, was ambushed in Sadr City in Baghdad. Kelly will star as Lt. Col. Gary Volesky, the battalion commander who leads a daring rescue operation when the 1st Cavalry Division comes under attack by Iraqi insurgents. Ritter will portray Capt. Troy Denomy, who leads the rescue convoys into the city following the ambush of the platoon and is a devoted family man with a wife and newborn son. Bosworth is set as Denomy’s wife, Gina. Callies will take on the part of LeAnn Volesky, Volesky's wife and a leader in the family readiness community. Fisher's role is Pfc. Tomas Young, the heroic 24-year-old soldier and later peace activist who is severely wounded in this battle. Sisto is Staff Sgt. Robert Miltenberger, a career soldier on the cusp of retirement who has been stop-lossed for this deployment. Rounding out the cast are Jon Beavers (NCIS) as Sgt. Eric Bourquin; E.J. Bonilla (Unforgettable) as Lt. Shane Aguero; Jorge Diaz (The 33) as Spc. Israel Garza; Ian Quinlan (Gotham) as Spc. Robert Arsiaga; Darius Homayoun (Tyrant) as the interpreter Jassim al-Lani; and Patrick Schwarzenegger (Scream Queens, Stuck in Love) as Sgt. Ben Hayhurst. Production on the mini begins this month in Fort Hood ahead of a premiere later this year. The Long Road Home is based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Martha Raddatz, with Mikko Alanne (The 33) tapped to adapt the series for the screen and serve as showrunner. Executive producers include Mike Medavoy, Jason Clark, Alanne, Benjamin Anderson and Edward McGurn. Nat Geo exec vp and head of scripted Carolyn G. Bernstein will oversee for the network. Directors on the mini include Phil Abraham (Mad Men) and Mikael Salomon (Six, Band of Brothers), who will also exec produce. "The Long Road Home is an extraordinary story of war, dramatizing not just the heroism and sacrifice on the front lines but the family bonds and courage on the homefront,” Bernstein said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have such a strong, talented cast on board to portray the real-life heroes — the courageous soldiers and their equally courageous families — who sacrificed so much for our country.” Said Medavoy: "When I read The Long Road Home, it reminded me of past films I had been involved with, namely Coming Home and Platoon, both of which dealt with the brutality of war — before, during and after. I’m excited to be doing this with such a talented group of people and National Geographic.” Kelly is repped by Liebman Entertainment and Schreck Rose; Ritter is with ICM Partners and Burstein Co.; Bosworth is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Morris Yorn; Callies is with ICM Partners, More/Medavoy and Sloane Offer; Sisto is repped by Gersh and MGMT Entertainment; and Fisher is with UTA, Industry Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/kate-bosworth-sarah-wayne-callies-jason-ritter-lead-nat-geos-long-road-home-987867

From who lives outside US it will be interesting to watch an american tv drama without “American heroes”, a real real story. I love tv and cinema and i think hollywood sometimes isn't accurate with some stories...i like these type of projects...
